Not too long ago a severe rainstorm hit my area, bringing 60 mile an hour wind gusts that caused my roof to leak. Water poured into my living room, damaging the walls, floors, and furniture. Rain continued off and on over the next few days, a few days break and then more rain for several more days all the while continuing to leak water into the living room from the roof despite all efforts to mitigate the steady flow of rain. I immediately filed a claim with my homeowners insurance, but despite the evidence of wind-driven rain, my claim was denied. I have paid my property insurance for decades and never once filed a claim, so it was devastating to find out I would not receive help when I needed it most.
To try to prevent further damage, I hired a company to put a tarp on the roof and another to vacuum up the excess water and set up heaters and drying equipment. Unfortunately, the tarp was not enough to keep more rain from coming in, and the drying equipment could only do so much. If I am unable to repair the damage, mold will set in and my home could become unlivable. The thousand of dollars it will cost to upgrade the roof, tear down and rebuild the living room walls, repair the floor, pay for the emergency services which is at $9000 already, and replace my furniture are overwhelming.
I am living on social security and simply do not have the resources to cover these expenses. I am at my wits end and do not know where to turn. I would be forever grateful for any amount you can donate to help me restore my home and get back on my feet. Your support means the world to me, and I hope that one day I will be able to pay it forward. Thank you for your kindness and goodwill.
