Hi everyone,
I honestly didn’t expect to be back here again so soon… but I’ve just found out I’ve been selected to represent Team Canada at the World Cup Qualifiers in Chile this April.
After India, this feels like unfinished business.
If you followed along last time, you’ll know India didn’t exactly go to plan... A lot of us got seriously ill with food poisoning during the tournament and it definitely affected how we were able to perform. We’d trained for months for that moment, and to have it impacted like that was tough.
This qualifier in Chile is huge. It’s our shot at earning a place at the next World Cup. It’s high level, high pressure hockey, and I’m incredibly proud to still be trusted to wear the maple leaf and compete for Canada.
Since India, I’ve just gone straight back to work and training. Early mornings, long sessions, saving everything I can. I’m 19, so like before, this tour is completely self-funded. I’m responsible for covering:
• Flights to Chile
• Accommodation and tournament fees
• Training camps and team levies
• Insurance and medical cover
• Kit and equipment
• Daily living costs while we’re there
The total is expected to be around £4,000+ (roughly $7,000 CAD).
I’m working as much as I can and putting everything towards it, but international sport at this level is expensive. If you supported me before, I am genuinely so grateful. It means a lot to know friends and family (and people I don't know) have my back. If you’re able to help again, even a small amount makes a difference.
And if not, sharing this or cheering from home is just as appreciated.
India was tough. Getting that sick, seeing the team go through it, and knowing we weren’t able to show what we were fully capable of was a hard pill to swallow. Chile feels like another chance. A chance to compete properly. A chance to prove something. A chance to help Canada qualify.
I don’t take any of this for granted. Every time I pull on that shirt, I know how lucky I am.
Thank you for backing me again.
Morgan
