Hello, my name is Alex Roper. I have recently been selected to represent Devon on the U15 cricket tour to South Africa in October this year. We'll be playing in Cape Town and Kruger against district-level cricket teams, which is an incredible opportunity to not only compete internationally but also to develop as a player and an individual. For me this is an amazing opportunity to represent my county and is something I've been working towards for several years.

Cricket is my favourite sport and I have played it from a very young age at Budleigh Salterton cricket club. At Budleigh I captain the U15s age group as well as competing in the U-17s, U-19s, and 2nd XI. I am also a student at Exmouth Community College where I captain my year group.

South Africa is an incredible country and will provide a fantastic opportunity for me to develop as a player. From dealing with the different climate and weather conditions, to learning how to master the pitch types. I will learn new skills in a new environment that I can bring back and share with my team mates back home.

The tour also has an educational side. I will learn about the deep history of South Aftrica and experience the diverse and varied wildlife of the country. It really is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to gain valuable life experiences to improve myself as an individual.
