My name is Cesar Herrera, and I’m reaching out because my personal vehicle was recently reported as stolen. Without a car, I’m unable to get to work—my job is about 30 minutes away from home, and in this country, having a car is truly a necessity, not a luxury. This unexpected loss has put me in a difficult position, and I’m worried about how I’ll manage my daily responsibilities and continue supporting myself.

I work for a non-profit food bank, where we help thousands of Connecticut residents who are facing food insecurity. It’s a job I care deeply about, but like many non-profit roles, it doesn’t pay as much as jobs in the for-profit sector. I purchased my car right before the pandemic, and unfortunately, with the way vehicle prices have skyrocketed since then, I can’t afford to buy a similar car with the same features today. If I can’t get to work, I may find myself facing the same food insecurity that I work so hard to fight in my community.
