Hi, my name is Matthew Mills and I'm a photographer in New York City.
On March 19, I was shooting at a venue with an event in the space to follow. I was told by the building's manager that I could lock my equipment in his office and that he had the only key. Twenty minutes after I secured my equipment, the building manager brought a complete stranger into the office and let him walk off with my camera and all my lenses. After the event, when I realized my equipment was gone, the building manager took the blame, citing ignorance, and shared the CCTV footage of the theft with the police on the scene. However, a few weeks later, the building decided not to cooperate and help me recover my losses.
This is now a legal matter which will take much time to resolve. In the meantime, I have bills stacking up and jobs I'm losing because of the theft, as well as attorney's fees. This has also seriously hampered my ability to recover financially from the Covid shutdown. I'm asking for any help you can give.
