Pookie is my fur baby, and she means everything to me. On New Year's Eve, while I was out, my neighbor—who is like family—took Pookie to the park, something they've done many times before. When they returned, two large dogs were running loose in our yard. Pookie, always protective, jumped out of the truck to chase them away. In an instant, one of the dogs attacked her, leaving her with devastating injuries. My neighbor didn't hesitate for a second. With her grandson's help, she wrapped Pookie in a towel and rushed her to the emergency vet, the only place open that night. She called me from the clinic, letting me know what had happened and that she was taking care of everything. I dropped everything and raced to the vet, terrified of what I might find. The news was grim—Pookie's injuries were severe, and her chances were only 50-50. My neighbor told me not to worry about the cost, that she would pay whatever it took to save Pookie. I was overwhelmed with worry and gratitude, knowing I couldn't have done this without her. The surgery was intense. The vet had to put Pookie's lung back in her chest, repair her stomach and intestines, and do everything possible to save her life. When the doctor finally told me Pookie was stable and looking better, I broke down in tears of relief. Now, a week later, Pookie is recovering at home. Her drains are out, and soon her stitches will come out too. She's still her energetic, fiery self, and keeping her calm is a challenge! She wasn't ready to give up on life, and neither was my neighbor. The emergency vet bill was a huge expense, and my neighbor paid it all without hesitation. I don't think she should have to bear that burden alone. She saved Pookie's life, and I want to do everything I can to help her. Please, if you love your pets as much as I do, consider helping us give back to this amazing neighbor. Any support you can offer means the world to us.
