I’m facing a major life transition and urgently need help relocating to care for my mother. I’ve lived in San Jose my entire life, but my 78-year-old mom is rapidly losing her vision due to macular degeneration and glaucoma, and she needs me with her now. She is losing her vision due to macular degeneration and glaucoma in both eyes. She’s described one eye as feeling like she’s looking through a kaleidoscope, while the other changes day to day. She should not be driving with her eyesight the way it is, but she’s been forcing herself to run errands just to keep her life going until I can get there to help her. She’s rapidly losing her independence, and I’m her only support.
As hard as it is for me to say this, I’m not used to asking for help—and it’s extremely difficult for me to do so now. I’ve always been independent and the one helping others. But my mom’s safety comes first, and I need to be there for her. I’ve been laid off from my union job, and while I’ve been working hard to build a business from home using AI, it simply isn’t coming together fast enough to meet this urgent situation.
I’m raising funds to cover the immediate costs of getting through this transition safely: one month of rent to finish packing and prepare to move, a moving truck and car trailer for the drive from San Jose to Meridian, my car payment, travel expenses, and basic setup costs once I arrive. This move means leaving the city I grew up in and everything familiar to me—but my mother has no one else, and I love her. Any help at all would mean more than I can put into words and will directly help me get to her safely and make sure she’s okay. Thank you sincerely for reading and for any support you’re able to offer.
