As I mark my cat Gringo’s 8th birthday and adoption anniversary from afar, I’m feeling the weight of distance more than ever. Since January, I’ve been working to build a new life as an artist in Mexico, separated from Gringo, who has been my steady source of emotional support through family losses, lockdown, and some of the hardest moments of my life. While he’s in good hands, I know he misses me as much as I miss him.

That pod holds nearly everything I own—my computer, backups, tools, paintings, and irreplaceable personal items like photo albums and family heirlooms.
