Help Me Recover, Rebuild, and Move Close to My Family
Introduction
My name is Lynne (Gaylor) James, and I’ve spent over 25 years as an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter, helping people within the deaf and deaf-blind communities to overcome communication challenges. My work has always been driven by a deep empathy for others and a genuine desire to make the world a better place. Recently, I’ve faced some of the most challenging times of my life, and I’m reaching out for your help to heal, rebuild, and to move closer to the family I love.
Through it all, I’ve found comfort and support from my beloved Shih Tzu, Cookie, who has been my constant companion.
My Story and Career Background:
My work as an ASL interpreter has been more than just a job; it’s my passion. Over the years, I’ve helped people communicate through some of their most vulnerable moments, from medical emergencies to everyday challenges. In
In an effort to enhance the quality of service I provide, I have pursued and earned a Bachelor’s Degree followed by a Master’s Degree in Psychology.. Furthermore, I hold an Advanced-level Certification from the Board of Evaluation of Interpreters. These qualifications equip me with the knowledge and skills to offer a higher standard of support and a deeper understanding of the needs of Those I work with. In addition to interpreting, I also have significant leadership experience, having served as the Executive Director of the Deaf Action Center in Dallas, Texas. In that role, I furthered my commitment to empowering the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. I’m eager to return to non-profit work and am open to opportunities, perhaps as an active board member, where I can continue to make contributions.
Recent Hardships:
In February 2024, my beloved mother passed away unexpectedly, which left me heartbroken. Just 12 days later, I was abruptly terminated from my full-time job of seven years, a position that had become increasingly toxic and hostile. The grief of losing my mother, coupled with the trauma of losing my job in such a painful way, left me in a state of emotional devastation for several months.
Cookie, My Emotional Lifeline:
Throughout these dark days, I’ve found solace in my emotional support animal, Cookie. Cookie, a sweet and loyal Shih Tzu, has been by my side through every tear and every sleepless night. Cookie’s presence has been a source of comfort and emotional grounding, helping me navigate the overwhelming grief and stress I’ve endured.
Recovery and Rebuilding:
Despite the heartache and challenges I’ve faced, I’m determined to rebuild my life. I’ve begun reestablishing my career as an Freelance ASL Interpreter focusing on the work I love—helping others to communicate using my interpreting skills. I’m also exploring opportunities to return to non-profit work, leveraging my experience as a former Executive Director to contribute to organizations that align with my passion for serving the deaf community. To fully rebuild, I need updated computer equipment to continue my work from home and ensure that I can provide the support my consumers depend on.
Move Closer to Family:
As I regain my strength, and rebuild my career, I dream of moving closer to my daughter and her family in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This move will not only bring me closer to my loved ones but will also provide the emotional support I need to fully recover. Additionally, they do not have family living nearby and living close will be beneficial for all.
Conclusion:
I’ve dedicated my life helping others, and now I’m reaching out for your support to rebuild mine. Your support will not only help me recover from the immense hardships I’ve faced but will also enable me to continue my life’s work of helping others, possibly returning to a leadership role in the non-profit sector in Pittsburgh. Together, we can help me move forward, alongside my beloved Cookie, to a new chapter filled with hope, healing, and the love of family.
With your donation, you’ll receive a personal thank you from me and updates along my journey of recovery, rebuilding, and moving closer to family. You’ll know you have helped someone who helps others.
