On January 27, 2023, at around 3 am, I was robbed while exiting my vehicle when arriving at my friend's driveway in the Culver City area.
I was coming from a dance event "Carnival - Choreographer's Ball" at The Vermont Hollywood and had made plans to stay with my friends since I live in Palmdale and I wanted to save myself a far & late night drive.
This was not my first time staying at my friend's home nor arriving at their home at such a late time; it's very normal for us (my friends & myself) to arrive at such hours since we are dancers and we go to attend dance events regularly during the week.
It has been physically but mostly mentally difficult for me to continue moving forward after experiencing a very scary moment in my life. I have never had so much fear of not knowing if I was being kidnapped, going to be raped, or possibly killed. I am the type of person who is ALWAYS aware of who is following me and double-checking my surroundings but, unfortunately, this time I felt too comfortable and did not pay as much attention to my surroundings as I normally would because I knew one of my friends would be arriving soon to switch our car spots.
I know for sure that the robber was not following me from the event but, instead was driving around, noticed I was in my car alone, and waited for me.
When my friend informed me they were arriving soon, I turned off my car and opened, while still inside my vehicle, my trunk to grab my belongings and bring them inside so that when my friend arrived, I would only have to worry about switching our cars. As iI opened my door and was getting out, I noticed someone coming up to me; I immediately thought to myself it was my friend trying to scare me...or my friends' friend...but, it was neither, and shortly after I realized I was in danger.
The robber was grabbing me to try to pull me out of my car and told me he would kill me if I screamed...as I was kicking and pulling myself back into my car, I quickly observed him and did not notice a weapon therefore, I began to scream, at the top of my lungs, for my one friend's name who was inside the home sleeping and for someone (anyone) to help me...I screamed loud enough that the next block made a 911 call.
The robber decided to let me go and I assumed he was going to try and enter my car from the other side. I immediately closed my door and locked myself inside...then I remembered my trunk is open.
The robber stole from my car trunk 2 duffel bags and my purse.
- The first duffel bag had ALL my dance shoes ranging from practice heels to performance/show heels along with other dance essentials for when I go to practice/training as well as when I hit the performance stages/shows.
- The second duffel bag contained 2 full clothing outfits, a jewelry box, ALL of my makeup (everyday + performance), hair products such as brushes and sprays, and all other personal essentials (deodorant, perfumes, lotion/creams, etc.)
- My purse had my wallet, my glasses for everyday use, my Apple Watch & AirPods, my Invisalign retainers, and other miscellaneous items that are of important everyday use for me.
I am okay and super thankful nothing more severe than 2 hairline fractures on 2 of my fingers happened to me from when he pushed me down after attempting to get my bags from him.
I am kindly asking for your help in helping me recover as many items as I can so I can practice and perform to my fullest. I would greatly appreciate any contribution to help me reach my goal. Thank you!
