Hi, I’m Andrew and I run a small one-person fudge business selling handmade Cornish fudge at markets and events.

A few weeks ago my life changed very suddenly.

Just a short time ago I was trading normally and preparing for the busy year of markets and events ahead.

But recently I was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological condition where the immune system attacks the nerves.

What started as pain and tingling quickly became severe weakness and within a short period of time I lost the ability to walk and most of the strength in my arms.

I am currently still in hospital receiving plasma exchange treatment and the doctors expect that recovery will take time and involve weeks or months of physiotherapy and rehabilitation before I regain normal mobility.

Because my business is a one-person operation I haven’t had any income since Christmas Eve and have had to cancel several large events I would normally attend at this time of year.

Being self-employed means that when I cannot work, my income stops completely.

This fundraiser has been set up to help support me while I recover and focus on getting back on my feet.

The funds will help with:

• basic living costs while I cannot work

• recovery and rehabilitation

• keeping my small business afloat until I am able to return

To say thank you, I’m planning a special “comeback fudge” batch - Once I’m back on my feet and able to make fudge again.

Donations of £25 or more will receive a bag of comeback fudge - Once I have recovered and returned to making fudge safely.

Donations of £50 or more will receive two bags of fudge.

Donations of £100 or more will receive four bags of fudge plus a handwritten thank-you note.

Fudge rewards will be sent once I am fully recovered and able to safely return to making fudge.
