Help Me Recover After Surviving a Rabid Coyote Attack
Donation protected
Hi, my name is James Pulliam, and I’m incredibly lucky to be here writing this.
On a quiet Friday evening, I stepped outside to my usual smoke break spot near my apartment in Roxboro, North Carolina—something I’ve done countless times before. But this time was different. I felt something off, like I was being watched. Moments later, a coyote came charging out of the woods.
I tried to scare it off with rocks and kicks, but I slipped and fell. That’s when the coyote attacked. He jumped on me, biting hard. I had to rip my own hand from his mouth, and then I did the only thing I could—I fought back with everything I had. I choked the coyote until help arrived. It was a brutal, terrifying fight for my life.
I was taken to the hospital with multiple bites and deep injuries to my left hand. Doctors gave me painful rabies shots, and I still have to return for more treatment, including antibiotics and ongoing medical follow-ups. The coyote was tested and confirmed positive for rabies.
What makes this even tougher is that I had just started a new job in the food industry. What I thought would be a short break outside has turned into an unexpected and extended break from work while I recover. Not only am I dealing with the trauma and pain, but I’m also facing lost income right when I was getting back on my feet.
I’m asking for help to cover my medical expenses, time away from work, and to support my recovery process. Anything you can give will help me focus on healing and getting back to work as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support and for sharing my story. I never imagined I’d be fighting off a rabid coyote just steps from home—but I’m thankful to be alive.
With appreciation,
James Pulliam
