On Father's Day, my life changed in an instant.
While I was crossing the street, I was hit by a truck that was turning left out of a Kroger parking lot. The injuries I suffered have left me with a long and difficult recovery.
I underwent major surgery on my right leg, where the surgeon put in a metal plate with 7 screws, put my cartilage back into place, repaired a torn meniscus. My main incision required 33 staples, along with five more for the meniscus repair. I also suffered a broken left wrist and a severe sprain to my left ankle.
More than a month later, I still cannot put any weight on my right leg. My left ankle can only support me while wearing a walking boot, and because of my broken wrist I have to use a walker with an attachment for my elbow on the left side just to get around. Even moving from one room to another is difficult and exhausting.
I was receiving inpatient rehabilitation, but my insurance stopped covering it before I had regained my independence, so I was discharged home. Unfortunately, I live alone and don't have anyone here to help me with everyday tasks.
Things that most people don't think twice about have become impossible for me. I can't go down the basement stairs to do laundry. I can't safely walk out to my mailbox. Preparing meals, getting around the house, and taking care of basic daily needs require far more effort than they ever have before.
The financial strain has become overwhelming. I have about $500 left in my checking account, and my bank recently declined my application for a $3,000 loan. I do have an attorney handling my case, but legal claims take time to resolve, and that doesn't help with the bills I have today.
I'm creating this fundraiser to help cover my basic living expenses while I recover. I've been paying what i can with credit cards in the meantime, but not every bill can be paid with a credit card and I don't even have enough money at the moment to cover my monthly mortgage payment. When I was brought home, I was asked to pay 42 dollars out of pocket and I had to beg the driver to bill me for it because he didn't take credit cards.
I really hate having to ask for help, but right now I don't have many options. Whether you're able to donate some money yourself or simply share this fundraiser with others, your kindness means everything to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for helping me get through this ordeal. I'm determined to recover, regain my independence, and move forward one step at a time.
