Hi, my name is Zymeer. I'm a 20-year-old full-time college student in North Carolina. For the past few years, I've been supporting myself while working and going to school. My family situation has made it difficult to rely on anyone financially, so I've been doing my best to build a stable future on my own.
Recently, after needing a new place to live, I found what looked like a legitimate apartment on Facebook Marketplace. The person I spoke with answered all of my questions, sent me a lease, and even directed me through the property's real self-showing system. Everything looked legitimate, so I moved in. Two days later, I came back to find everything I owned sitting outside and a No Trespassing sign on the door. The real property management company later confirmed that the lease I signed was fake and that the person I had been communicating with had no connection to them. I also found other people in my area who reported being scammed by the same name. I've reported everything to Chime, law enforcement, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. I'm still trying every option available, but so far I haven't recovered what I lost.
Beyond the financial loss, many of my belongings were damaged after being left outside, and I had to move into storage while temporarily staying with my girlfriend's family. I'm incredibly grateful they opened their home to me, but it isn't a long-term solution with the fall semester approaching. I'm raising money to help me recover from this setback so I can replace essential belongings, secure stable housing again, keep reliable transportation, and continue working toward my college degree.
If you're able to donate or simply share my fundraiser, I would be incredibly grateful. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for helping me move forward.
