Help me record my first professional studio album.

Hi! My name is Jeremy Powell and I am a NYC-based saxophonist, composer, and music teacher. When I was just 18 years old I left home to become a professional musician here in NYC. I put myself through both undergraduate and graduate music programs on my own. At one point I only had $10 to my name. There’s definitely been some tough times along my musical journey over the years but I haven’t let them keep me from doing what I love, making music. Now it’s time for me to fulfill my long-time dream of having my music recorded professionally with some of my favorite musicians in the world. I would love your support to make this happen!

I’ve had this dream in the back of my mind for a long time and it finally feels like now is the right time for me to make this dream a reality. That is why I’m asking my community to help me raise $10,000 to pay for the studio time, the engineer, the mixing and the mastering of the album, and of course to pay the other musicians.

“But why now Jeremy?”. “What’s so important about your music that you want to spend all of this time and effort to raise $10k to record it?”.

Over the past few years I’ve been writing (in my opinion) accessible, soulful, and organic music that I haven’t been able to play much and share publicly other than with some close musical friends of mine. When writing these songs I’ve done my best to keep the listener in mind and I strive to put myself in their shoes as I finish writing each one. My goal for this album is for the listeners to feel like they are a part of the band and most of all, to give them feelings of warmth, focus, and positivity while they are listening to the music. Those feelings are what music has consistently brought into my life and why I am still a musician today and I really want people to experience that.

My hope is that when my students, friends, and family listen to these songs they will be able to hum the melodies and sing along with ease. As a music teacher my other hope is that as they listen they will want to learn more about instrumental music and most of all- musical instruments. When they listen, the answers to these questions so many of us are always racking our brains with will become crystal clear: Which instrument has the melody? Are they playing the melody or are they soloing? Why are they soloing? When did their solo start? When did it end and why did it end (“omg, it was sooooo good”)?
