Help Me Rebuild My Life in Brighton
My name is Rafa. I’m 38 years old, and I’ve been living with tinnitus and hyperacusis since I was 17.
In April 2024, after many years of playing music, my condition became so severe that I had to stop. Music was my passion and my career, but the constant ringing in my ears and the pain from everyday sounds made it impossible to continue.
This year, I’ve been living in Valencia, Spain, trying every treatment I could find. Unfortunately, none of them have worked for me. Hyperacusis has kept me at home most of the time, isolated from the world.
Now I want to return to Brighton, the city where I used to live, to try and rebuild my life. I want to start again, continue fighting, and look for new opportunities and treatments in the UK.
But moving countries and starting from zero is not easy. I need support to cover my basic living costs and to replace some of the essential music equipment I lost, so I can start creating again and rebuild my life in Brighton. I will also need to cover travel expenses to return to the UK, as well as temporary accommodation and other essential costs to get settled once I arrive. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings me one step closer to stability and to making music again. And having that stability also means I can continue fighting this condition and look for new opportunities and treatments in the UK.
If you can help me, even a little, it would mean the world to me. Your support will give me the chance to start again and to keep fighting this condition.
Thank you for reading my story and for any help you can give.
