My name is Elizabeth Marks, and asking for help is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. The last few years have been overwhelming, and after trying to rebuild my life on my own, I am at a point where I can’t move forward without support. After a difficult divorce, I lost my home, my job, and the small business my ex-spouse and I once shared. The situation surrounding the divorce was incredibly complicated and included circumstances I am still working to resolve. What I can say is that the fallout left me with nothing—no home, no savings, and no stability. I had to leave my former town for my own safety and start over somewhere new. I came to Texas with only my two Great Danes and a few belongings. I was fortunate that someone allowed me to stay on their small porch in exchange for doing chores and helping care for their animals. I have been grateful for a safe place to sleep, even though it has meant showering at a gym and living with little privacy or comfort. During the time of my marriage and up to recently I have been dealing with a stolen identity, compromised accounts, stolen email, stolen phone number, and I had to rebuild my credit from the ground up. Now that I am 65 years old, I receive a small amount from Social Security and have Medicare, but it barely covers basic needs. I have been working to find steady employment, but without stable housing or transportation, it has been impossible.
Recently, I had a car accident on my way back from taking a shower at the gym. My car was totaled, leaving me without transportation. There is no public transit where I live. Without a car, it is impossible to move forward, including maintaining basic hygiene. I also need reliable transportation to care for my remaining Great Dane, who is my companion and emotional support, especially after losing my other dog this past year. I am not someone who gives up easily. I have worked as a business owner, litigation paralegal, and a claims adjustor. I have volunteered in my community including a Board Member of Park County Recreation and Parks, church and I have always tried to help others. But the combination of divorce, identity theft, relocation, instability, and the recent accident has left me without any way to get back on my feet on my own.
I am raising funds so I can purchase a reliable used vehicle and eventually secure a small place to live where I can safely keep my dog and focus on rebuilding my life. A stable home and dependable transportation would give me the foundation I need to get steady work again and move forward after years of uncertainty. Any amount helps, and I’m incredibly grateful to anyone willing to support me in this difficult chapter. Your help would truly give me a chance to feel safe, stable, and independent again. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
