Help me with getting back on my feet..literally

Donation protected
Hi everyone!

My name is Morgan Taylor I’m in desperate need of help. This is not easy for me to do and it’s very difficult for me ask for help but I don’t know what else to do.

On 3/30/22 my life took a dramatic turn. I was attacked in a parking garage in Nashville by a man and was beaten and then robbed. The assailant left me unconscious on the ground. In his attempt to flee the scene as fast as he could, he ran over my leg with his vehicle. I was luckily found by a passerby who called 911, and I was rushed to the hospital where I was told because of the impact and trauma to my leg, I got something called compartment syndrome which cuts off all the circulation to your leg. My leg was 4 times the size of my other leg. I was told by multiple doctors and surgeons that I would never walk again and that my best option was to amputate my leg.

I refused to let my leg be amputated and spent three months living in a hospital, undergoing six different surgeries. Since I didn’t have insurance at the time, I got terrible care and was given a wheelchair and then transferred to a state nursing home facility disguised as a physical therapy rehabilitation place. I lived in that nursing home for a month before I finally got to go home. Once I got home, my mailbox was full of medical bills that had already gone to collections totaling over $300,000, completely destroying my credit. I worked really hard and fought with the hospital for over a year regarding my medical bills and was able to get most of them taken care of except for a few.

For nearly a year and a half, I was living alone and confined to a wheelchair. I had to change careers and start over from nothing. Despite the grim prognosis, I refused to give up or be a victim. I also refused to get on disability and I didn’t take pain medication unless it was before a surgery because I promised myself I would never use my pain as an excuse to get addicted to pain medication because that’s not how I want my son to see me and I want to the best mom and role model I can be for him.

Within a week of getting home, I got an entry level job making $17 an hour but they offered insurance so once my insurance kicked in I found an incredible surgeon at Vanderbilt who managed to surgically put a brace my foot for 5 months, allowing me to avoid amputation.

IToday, I am so happy to say that I am out of the wheelchair, I am still wearing a walking boot as I slowly regain my ability to walk independently. I am eternally grateful for the progress I’ve made, but I still need another surgery to fully recover—something I cannot afford right now.

This experience has profoundly changed me for the better. I have fought through immense physical and emotional pain, but it has made me stronger and more determined than ever. I pulled myself out of a deep depression, started therapy to heal from the trauma I went thru, and made significant lifestyle changes. I quit smoking cigarettes, and stopped surrounding myself with negativity. I now meditate daily, eat healthy and exercise regularly. This journey has taught me not to take anything for granted, especially the simple act of walking. I have been given a second chance at life, and I’m determined to make the most of it.

However, my challenges are far from over. I urgently need to find a new home as my lease ends in two weeks, and the place I thought I had secured fell through at the last minute and now I don’t know what to do. I need funds for the security deposit and the first month's rent.

Additionally, I desperately need a car to regain my independence, get to and from work, be able to take my son places without having to uber or walk and manage daily tasks and appointments, which has been incredibly difficult without one for the past 4 years.

This is incredibly hard for me to do but I’m asking for help to raise $10,000 to cover what’s left of my medical bills from my most recent surgery, put a small down payment for a car since I’m finally able to drive again, and I desperately need a security deposit and first months rent for a new home for myself and my son all in 2 short weeks.

Your support would mean the world to me and my son. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us continue to rebuild our lives. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read my story and for considering a donation. Your kindness and generosity will not only help me stand on my own two feet again but also provide a stable and safe environment for my son, Landon.

With heartfelt gratitude and love,

Morgan
