Hi, I’m Sum — a husband, a father, and a photographer who once saw the world through a hopeful lens.
Last year, I made the hardest decision of my life — I left Hong Kong with my family and moved to the UK, hoping to give my child a future with more freedom, more safety, and more dreams.
But to do that, I had to give up my own dream. I sold all my camera gear — every lens, every body, everything I had worked so hard to own — just to afford the journey to a new life.
It’s been a year. Life here is not glamorous. We work hard. We worry. But we survive.
I have a job, but after rent, bills, and my child’s school needs, there’s barely anything left. Still, deep in my heart, I miss the feeling of holding a camera… capturing a smile… freezing a moment that someone can treasure forever.
Photography isn’t just a job to me. It was once my voice, my hope, and my healing. And now, I want to use it to help others too — families here, new friends, those who can’t afford fancy studios but deserve beautiful memories.
My colleagues have already offered to be my first “models.” They believe in me — they just know I need a camera.
All I’m asking is help to raise £1100 — enough to buy a second-hand camera with a decent lens. It’s not just about photos. It’s about rebuilding dignity, passion, and a better future.
Your help — whether it’s £5, a share, or just reading this — brings me closer to standing behind the camera again.
From my heart: thank you. Let’s make smiles last forever.
Kind regards,
Sum
