Hi, my name is Evelyn Glover, and I’m currently a resident at the Blue Ridge Job Corps Center in Marion, Virginia. I came to Job Corps to build a better future, like many other students who came to start a better future, sought a safe space away from homelessness, unsafe living environments or wanted a decent job
My journey started in September 2024 at the Woodstock Job Corps Center, where I was only a week away from completing my Clinical Nursing Assistant (CNA) trade when the center was shut down due to “lack of funding.” I was transferred to Blue Ridge in January 2025 and placed into a new trade, Patient Care Technician (PCT), because CNA wasn’t available at the time. I had to start over completely, but I stayed committed.
As of May 29, I had completed 51% of my new trade. Then we were hit with devastating news: all Job Corps programs nationwide were being shut down by June 30. The very next day, we were told our center would be closing even sooner, by June 4, leaving us just days to pack up and leave.
This sudden closure has disrupted not only my education and career goals, but also my living situation. Like many of my peers, I have nowhere to go and very little time to figure it out.
I’m asking for help to cover basic needs like transportation, temporary housing, food, and the resources I’ll need to stay on track until i can find permanent housing and continue pursuing my career in healthcare. My dream is still alive. I just need support getting through this unexpected crisis.
If you can donate or share this with others, it would mean the world to me. Thank you so much for reading and supporting me during this time.
With gratitude,
Evelyn Glover
