At 2pm on April 27th, a lithium battery exploded in the dorm room next to mine, starting a fire. I saw smoke coming from my vents, and my roommate and I evacuated immediately. Once we were safe, we learned that all of our belongings had been deemed a health hazard due to the smoke in the air. This meant that many of my projects, clothes, and suitcases could not be used, and I lost not only thousands of dollars of personal belongings but also precious photos of my friends and family.
As an art college student at SCAD, losing my sketchbooks, art supplies, and books has been especially hard. These items are essential for my classes and creative work, and without them, it’s difficult to keep up with my studies. The loss of my clothes and other essentials has also made daily life much more challenging.
Getting my things replaced will help me get back on track to my life before the fire and allow me to continue growing as a student. Any support would mean the world to me as I work to rebuild after this unexpected loss. Thank you for considering helping me during this difficult time.
