Help Me Reach NTI!

The Rite of Spring, American Theater Company, Photography by Eric L. Kirkes

Hello!

My name is Éamon and I am a young artist currently emerging into the theatre industry. My recent projects include a queer reinterpretation of The Rite of Spring showcased at American Theater Company, as well as a currently ongoing series of public performance installations in cities across the U.S. titled I Miss You, Lily Briscoe. More about me and the work I do below*

I also have some very exciting news to share: I have just been accepted into National Theatre Institute’s Advanced Directing program!!!! NTI is a really amazing home for ensemble-based, new-work-oriented theatre education that operates in partnership with The Eugune O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford, Conneticut. It also attracts really important artists from across the country who work everywhere from Broadway to Sundance to storefront regional theatre.

The program I would be entering is specifically oriented towards emerging artists and providing a bridge between undergraduate scholarship and work in the professional industry! It is also an amazing artistic and educational experience in its own right that directors like myself crave when we are too young in our careers to be eligible for an MFA candidacy. I believe I am one of the lucky FOUR to receive this offer.

So- This is all incredible, and these 14 weeks could mean a lot for my future and what I can do next!

Now I need your support: While NTI is offering me partial scholarship, I still have a long way to go in raising the necessary funds. Part of how I am accomplishing this is picking up extra part-time work and draining all my savings I’ve worked hard to manage over the past 4 years. These resources combined still do not cover tuition. If you are able, I would be forever grateful for your contribution- whatever amount you are able to give! In return, I will share my work with you and make this an opportunity for us to share a new experience together. Videos, journals, facetime conversations- anything is on the table!

And let me know if you are working on a project I could help you achieve. I would love to contribute if possible.

Thank you for reading, and thank you, in advance, for your support of this project!

Love,
Éamon

ARTISTIC STATEMENT
While growing up exposed to a wide array of artistic experiences, I have only learned to create by finding curiosity in collaboration, by expressing the ensemble, and by actualizing accountability.

I am a queer artist infuriated by canonical homogeneity and oppressive power structures which permeate creative process. As a leader, I draw great inspiration from artists who create process-driven content under models of transformative justice and civil disobedience. I trace their models of action in my own work, ranging from the postmodern to more classical frameworks of theatre-making.

We must create pathways for the sustainable development of new work. We must discover new ways to frame our experiences. We must center our creative focus on experiences which matter and voices which remain unheard.
