Hi, my name is Avery, and I’m reaching out for help taking the next big step in my life—pursuing my dream of becoming a writer and finally closing the distance between me and my long-distance partner of 3 years while finding safety and stability abroad.
I’m a senior in college, about to graduate with my bachelor’s degree, and I’ve been accepted into the Creative Writing Master’s Program at Aberystwyth University in Wales. This program is everything I’ve worked for—it will allow me to grow as a writer and playwright, build a future doing what I love, and finally live somewhere I can truly thrive.
However, I need to pay a $3,800 deposit to the school in order to lock in my place or risk not getting a spot. I can’t do it alone on work-study money as an already flailing college student. I've already been accepted once into a program at this exact school, and I don't want to risk it by not being able to accept my offer again.
But why does this matter?
As a trans person, staying in the U.S. feels more dangerous every day. Moving to the UK would give me a chance to focus on my future.
Not only this, but writing has always been a passion of mine, and this master’s program is a huge step toward building my repertoire as an author and playwright. I write about queer love, anti-conformity, and the joys of being different.
And lastly, for the past three years, my partner and I have been in a long-distance relationship. We are happily engaged and this move would finally allow us to close the distance and build a life together.
Every dollar gets me closer to this opportunity. If you can’t donate, sharing my story means the world to me. Thank you for believing in me and helping me build a future where I can be safe, happy, and creative.
