Help me R&D my OCD show!

Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit this fundraiser page. I am an up and coming actor/dancer/writer represented by leading agency Simon and How and, crucially, a sufferer of OCD. I decided to write a show based on my own experiences of blaring, undiagnosed OCD earlier in my life. Here's the elevator pitch:

Its 2022. London. The only thing India has seen in 8 months is the inside of their mum’s house. Thats 8 months since they’ve been to uni, or rather, 8 months since they’ve been outside at all.

What was that feeling? What does that feeling mean? That can’t be real. You want to. You want to do it. You’re gonna hurt someone. You’re a murderer. You can’t let that feeling be real. You’re dangerous. You’re evil. Just pick up the vase. Yesterday you picked up the vase, and you didn't hurt anyone. Just pick up the vase. Then the bad thing wont happen. Do it again. And again. And again. Breathe.

India simply cannot do anything apart from daydream about Andy Puddicombe from Headspace and pick up the same vase over and over again, tormented dawn to dusk by ritual and avoidance compulsions. Told between two strangers predominantly either side of a front door, we explore the humorous ways that their happy-go-lucky, neurotypical and incredibly persistent Postman, disenchanted by grind-culture and in search of interpersonal familiarity and warmth, can collide with someone pushing everyone in the world away. How far will India's search for certainty will go when Phil from the Council slips them an eviction notice, potentially forcing them to confront what they are convinced will be the actual death of everyone?

WHY I NEED YOUR HELP!

Theatre is EXPENSIVE. In these financially trying times, funding is beyond scarce, even for projects like these that endeavor to do some good. I need to see how this show really works off the page and onto the stage. Your money will go towards covering the rehearsal and sharing hire costs, paying technicians, van hire.. all the admin bits that don't come cheap! This will help me to get a real sense of the show's potential, and will certainly help me along my way in applying for Arts Council Funding to really blow the show up into its full form! (Arts Council like to know you've made some of the £ yourself!!!)

Lastly... OUTREACH PLANS!

I wouldn't be able to do what I do without the phenomenal support i've received from mental health professionals (and crucially, my family and friends!) over the years. OCD has been ranked in the top 10% most debilitating conditions. I am in conversation with a number of NHS mental health wards who may one day, when the show is in its full form, allow me to perform my show at their venues for patients or provide supplementary movement sessions for sufferers. The ultimate aim is to focus on Cognitive Diffusion and a dance version of ‘the silly voice technique’ which undermines the scariness of the thought and rids it of power. Dancing always got me through the worst of times and that's something I really want to give to others too.

info overload over. Thank you so much in advance for any help you can give. I am really passionate about this show.

PS. Don't worry, the show is FUNNY. I really hope to see you there :)

Love,

Indie
