Hi, I'm Zain! I am an aspiring lawyer and a student at the University of Cambridge studying Human, Social and Political Sciences.
I am a scholar of the Amos Bursary, which is a programme and charity for talented young people of African and Caribbean descent. The programme provides mentorship, community and opportunities, with the purpose of helping those who are underprivileged and underrepresented to succeed in their future endeavours.
Through the Amos Bursary, I am blessed enough to have the opportunity to go to New York City this summer!
I will be spending a month there, and during my time I will:
- Gain valuable insight through exclusive visits to some of the Amos Bursary's renowned sponsor companies
- Network with professionals within the fields of law, academia and the arts, with these being my areas of interest
- Build my cultural capital through visits to prestigious universities and sites of rich heritage
- Make the most of what New York has to offer by getting involved in extra-curricular activities
However, while the Amos Bursary is very kindly covering the essential costs for my trip, I have been tasked with raising £1,500 to help with:
- Living expenses
- Transport
- Activities and extra-curriculars
When it comes to me personally, I hope to one day use my expertise as a lawyer to make positive changes to the lives of others. I'm interested in pursuing a post-graduate degree in America too, and so this trip will be invaluable to me!
I currently make content on social media, providing advice and inspiring a family of over 2,400 others who hail from backgrounds of disadvantage and under-representation akin to my own.
I also love literature, with an affinity for poetry and spoken word! I create and share my work on my social media and personal blog, as I truly believe in the power that art has to change the world for the better.
Any help would be truly appreciated, even a like or a repost would do wonders for my cause!
Words cannot describe how grateful I am for you taking the time to hear my story, and I thank all of you in advance for your help in pushing me closer to achieving my dreams.
Much love, and many thanks,
Zain
