My name is Sam, and I am asking for your help to raise money towards my top surgery.

This time three years ago, I did a GoFundMe to help me pay fees for a gender clinic and start hormone treatment. I was incredibly lucky to raise enough money, and in August, I’ll be celebrating three years on testosterone.

Now feels like the right time for me to move on to the next step in my transition.

Top surgery has been something I’ve always wanted to do. I have consistently struggled a lot with my appearance. Even now, being comfortably on testosterone, I don’t appear as masculine as I would like. I go through phases of being fixated on this and will wear a binder, which helps flatten my chest. However, it causes a lot of discomfort and can leave lasting pain in my ribs. It is especially difficult during Summer when I feel less comfortable wearing fewer layers, but then wearing a binder can be too hot and sometimes make it hard to breathe. I often think about how amazing it would be to go swimming without worrying about how my chest looks or having to wear a swim shirt that makes me feel different from everyone else.

For recommended surgeons, the guide price I have been given is currently between £9845 and £10650, plus around £300 for a consultation. For me, this is an unfathomable amount of money and something I would work towards on my own for many years. It feels against my nature to ask for this level of support from people, but after encouragement from my loved ones here I am!

I am incredibly grateful for the support I have and understand how privileged I am to be able to publicly ask for financial help. I also understand that times are really tough right now, so I am incredibly grateful for any donations I may receive.
