Please Help us bring Jazz in My Soul to Life!

Hi, my name is Edie Anderson, author of "Jazz in My Soul/a Marvin Gaye Fantasy," a musical stage play about a woman obsessed with the deceased R&B star Marvin Gaye and his jazz ballads recorded in 1968 with arranger/producer Bobby Scott.

Marvin Gaye was determined to be a jazz singer; it had been his dream since childhood, and it was most certainly his intention when he signed with Motown. In 1968 Marvin recorded a list of beautiful ballads arranged by the great Bobby Scott, however halfway through the recording session with Mr. Scott he abruptly stopped the session. Ten years later Marvin re-worked those beautiful ballads and placed them on an album called “The Ballads” in 1978 only to be rejected by the record label. That still did not stop Marvin, he was determined to fulfill his dream of being a jazz singer. Right before his life was cut short, he was set to record a jazz album with Natalie Cole and pianist Bobby Taylor for Columbia Records.

Just like Marvin I refuse to give up. Help me bring Marvin’s story to one of our local stages. I have set 2024 as the year for Jazz in My Soul/a Marvin Gaye Fantasy/The Concert. I will keep you posted at www.jazznmysoul.com for more information.

I thank all of you for your continued support of Jazz in My Soul, and I thank you in advance for however much you can give to make this dream possible.
