I have experienced an extremely traumatic event that has impacted my daily life substantially. Acceptance into this program has been a light at the end of a very long tunnel and brings hope for returning to independence and the ability to live life fully. Tasks that once were common place (grocery shopping, commuting, being in a loud crowded room, having my back to a door/hallway, navigating a new place) can now be overwhelming, daunting and trigger filled for someone with PTSD. Regardless of how safe the area and surrounding people may be - I regularly experience feelings of danger, hyper vigilance, dissociation and panic attacks. Service Dogs can assist by providing comfort, redirection, alerting prior to a panic attack and assistance guiding to a safe area in the event of a panic attack/dissociative event (as these two symptoms can and often do lead to confusion and disorientation). Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit Mission Working Dogs, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me. I highly recommend reading more about service animals and how they can assist those with a disability regain their independence and continue healing. Thank you, Sarah
