Hi, my name is Lisa.
I’m reaching out because I’m going through an extremely difficult time and still really need some support.
Over the past year and a half, I’ve suffered several concussions, including a serious traumatic brain injury (TBI) earlier this year that resulted in a skull fracture and brain bleed. The recovery has been long, painful, and unpredictable, affecting nearly every part of my life.
Because of the severity of my injuries, I was unable to work for a period of time, and I fell behind on rent, which ultimately led to me losing my apartment. Since then, it’s been a constant struggle to find stability again.
For a while, I was living in a tent with my dog, Pearl, just trying to survive. It was terrifying at times, and I often feared for my safety at night. Thankfully, I was eventually able to move into a shelter, which has given me a much-needed sense of safety and a place to sleep. It’s been a huge improvement from being outside, and I’m finally able to rest a bit better now.
However, the shelter environment isn’t ideal for healing. There are some very unwell people here, and the constant noise and tension make it hard to recover or focus on rebuilding my life. I’m deeply grateful to have a roof over my head, but it’s not a stable or healthy place to stay long-term—especially as I continue to recover from multiple brain injuries.
I do have a job that I want to get back to as soon as possible. I’m ready and eager to work—but I need a safe, stable place for me and Pearl in order to make that possible.
I’ve been working closely with social workers and applying to housing programs, but most are overwhelmed and have long waitlists. I’m doing everything I can to move forward, but I need some help bridging the gap.
Any support—whether it’s financial assistance, housing leads, supplies, or simply sharing my story—would mean so much right now. Having a secure place for me and Pearl would give me the chance to fully heal and get back to work.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any kindness or help you can offer.
With gratitude,
Lisa
