For the first 7-8 years of my daughters’ lives, their father was not involved. When the state stepped in to pursue child support, he began filing multiple motions for custody. Despite his long criminal history and violent tendencies, the court eventually allowed him unsupervised overnight visits after he hired a lawyer and convinced me to agree. Since then, my daughters and I have faced several troubling incidents. There has been violent behavior in front of the girls, My daughters have also claimed they witnessed him physically abuse his girlfriend and her two older sons. After the second CPS visit, their father called my daughters and told them they were not welcome at his home and blamed them for his troubles. He then showed up for his parenting time a few days later as if nothing had happened. Although CPS has investigated these incidents, the cases have been closed twice. I am now fighting to keep my daughters from having to go to their father’s house until he receives anger management treatment. He also owes significant unpaid child support. This situation has taken a heavy emotional toll on both me and my girls. They have told me they feel uncomfortable and do not like going to their father’s house. As a mother, it is heartbreaking to feel powerless to protect them. With your support, I can hire a lawyer who will help me show the judge the truth about our situation. The lawyer can present evidence of the father’s unfitness, ensure the court enforces child support payments, and work to limit his time with the girls to a safe environment. I am asking for your help to protect my daughters and provide them with the safe, stable environment they deserve. Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference in our fight for safety and justice.
