Help Me Produce A Photo Essay!

About Me

I'm a lifelong photographer and experienced traveler. I work in film and digital, small and medium format. I took all of the images you see here, many of them are studies for "The Stones We Throw."

I use mostly vintage film cameras from the mid-20th century. My favorite film stocks include Ferrania P30, Ilford Ortho, and Kodak Tri-X.

I studied photography in London in 2004 and art history at Portland State in 2013-15.

The Essay

What does the collapse of the Angevin Empire in the 13th century have to do with World War One?

William was the illegitimate son of a king, who lived a life of privilege and prestige. Jack was a common soldier who lived roughly 700 years later.

Their lives couldn't have been more different, yet their fates intersected across history.

In this photo essay, "The Stones We Throw," I approach their stories, which bookend each other across seven centuries, through words and evocative images.

This is not a dry biography; this is a story I have become very much involved in. Call it "Gonzo history" if you will.

What will the fundraiser cover?

The money raised will cover air fare, lodging, food, and ground transportation as well as film for my cameras, unpaid leave from work, and the cost of printing.

The basic itinerary (subject to change)

July 6 2025- Arrive at one of 3 airports in France or Belgium.

July 7- Ypres

July 8- Armentieres and Bouvines

July 9- Chinon, Fontrevauld, and Poitiers

July 10- Île de Ré, hotel in Rouen

July 11- Rouen, ferry from Le Havre, hotel in Salisbury.

July 12- Salisbury

July 13- Yeovil, East Coker, hotel in Hereford

July 14- Hereford, hotel in Shrewsbury.

July 15- Shrewsbury and the Shropshire hills.

July 16- Travel to Dover.

July 17- Dover and Richmond. Hotel in Gatwick.

July 18- Fly home from LGW.

Prizes

Those who donate anything at all will receive an acknowledgement in the book.

Those who donate $50 or more will receive a copy.

Those who donate $100 or more will receive a limited edition lithograph or ink transfer print of one of the photographs featured in the book.

Those who donate $500 or more will receive all of this plus four more lithograph or ink transfer prints of any of my work they choose.
