I’m raising funds in hope to attend Atlantic Plastics 2026 in Iceland (October 2026), an international conference focused on understanding and addressing plastic pollution in marine and coastal environments from pole to pole. This is a unique opportunity to share important Arctic and Antarctic research on a global stage and connect with scientists, policymakers, and communities working toward real solutions.

About My Research:

My work focuses on microplastic pollution in the Canadian Arctic, including its presence in ecologically and culturally important species like ringed seals (Pusa hispida). This research is a collaborative effort between scientists, Inuit Hunters and Trappers, Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada. Together, we’re working to better understand how microplastics move up the food chain in northern ecosystems and what that means for wildlife and communities that rely on these environments.

Why This Matters:

Plastic pollution is not just an ocean issue, it’s everywhere, and it’s starting to accumulate in the Arctic Ocean. Microplastics have been found in water, wildlife, and even the air we breathe. In the Arctic, where ecosystems are especially sensitive to climate change and food systems are deeply connected to the land and water, understanding this contamination is critical.

Sharing this work at an international conference helps:

• Bring attention to Arctic ecosystems and Indigenous-led and collaborative knowledge.

• Inform global policy and conservation strategies.

• Ensure northern voices and data are included in global discussions.

Why I Need Your Help:

As part of a low-funded lab, opportunities to travel, present, and publish are very limited. Conferences like this are essential for getting our work recognized, building collaborations, and pushing this research forward, but they come with significant costs.
