My name is Luna, and I'm a transgender university student in the UK who needs help.
I'm raising money to cover rent and basic living costs over the summer so I can stay safely housed until Student Finance resumes in September.
I need enough money to be able to afford my summer rent which is £1,769.98 plus other costs of living such as food, toiletries, meds, phone bill, etc. I also have debts to pay off, such as my zilch pay-later, which I was foolishly using to try and delay the inevitable.
Without help, I may lose my accommodation before Student Finance resumes and be left without anywhere to live, and afford food, meds, etc.
UK Student maintenance loans only provide students with enough money to live during term time, because they expect students to return home to their families over the summer.
I, unfortunately, can't do this as I'm a mature transgender adult, and my relationship with family is, without going into personal detail, complicated.
I'm aiming for £1,800 which after rent and debts, leaves me with just shy of £350 to live on till the end of September (including what's already in my bank).
I have already tried applying for overdrafts and loans (student and regular), but despite my credit score being decent with no negatives on the reports, I keep getting rejected without reasons.
I'm trying to apply for summer jobs, but as a mature student I've been struggling to compete for entry-level work because younger students are cheaper for employers to hire under UK minimum wage laws.
Thank you all for taking the time to read.
