Hey everyone,
I hate to have to do this and I thought about it for a long time and I just don't really see any other way at this point...
As I'm sure many of you already know, I was diagnosed with May-Thurners Syndrome last year after undergoing numerous medical tests including invasive ones like several venograms to determine what was going on. I was getting random swelling, nodules/irregular skin issues, bruising, bad circulation and leg/hip and lower back pain for several months before I received my diagnosis.
I have already had iliac 2 stents put in and I still have to have 2 ablations, an incisional hernia repair (which I just found out I had during an exam 2 weeks ago), and to remove the nodules on my upper legs, hips and arms. I have already spent over $2,000 out of pocket between all of my appointments, medication etc... in the past year, and these surgeries are going to cost another $8,500 total. I have already paid a $1,500 deposit so the balance is $7,000. I also only have 7 PTO days left at work to use until November so any additional time I need to recover will be unpaid (but I am fortunate that I am not at risk of losing my job).
I will need a total of 4 surgeries and only some of it will be covered by insurance as they feel that the rest is "cosmetic" even though it is related to specific health issues. The price I received includes the non-covered procedures as well as the co-pays for my covered expenses. I have been going through this for over a year and COVID has already postponed everything by several months. The money that I had saved for the procedures a few months back, I lent to family and friends that were out of work and needed to pay for insurance or basic necessities. None of them are in the position to pay it back at this time, which is completely understandable, but now I have to find a way to raise the money so I can move forward or I have to postpone my surgeries again. I have extreme medical anxiety/phobias, anxiety and depression in general, and I don't think that I can mentally wait any longer to get everything done especially because we don't know what the next few months will be like/if there will be more shutdowns.
Before anyone asks, I can't afford the monthly payments/interest rate on medical loans with all of my other bills otherwise I would have gone that route first. I looked into it already and I wouldn't be asking for help if I had other options right now.
I would appreciate any help anyone can give me at this point. Thank you!
