Hi, my name is Jasé. I’m a 20-year-old Black, queer trans man from Indiana, and I’ve been chronically ill for as long as I can remember,navigating complex health challenges without consistent access to the care I needed. Despite that, I’ve remained ambitious, creative, and deeply committed to building a better life for myself. I’ve faced more obstacles than most my age, but my determination has never wavered.

I moved to Boston in hopes of finally receiving the specialized medical care my conditions require. For the first time, real support feels within reach but it’s come with serious financial strain. I recently lost my state health insurance, and the only coverage available now still leaves me with $300 a month in out-of-pocket medication costs, plus $300–$500 co-pays for specialist visits. These costs are simply not sustainable on my own.

Beyond my health, I dream of being the first in my family to attend college at a young age. I was a strong student, but like so many others, I’ve been forced to work full-time just to survive. I want the chance to rediscover myself, to live in a healthier body, to find my passions, and to explore who I am beyond the constant struggle to make ends meet. Which, I recently got a big opportunity to further my education and move into dorms. But, between medical bills and the high cost of necessity items, that opportunity feels increasingly out of reach.
