For years, I have faced discrimination and been denied countless job opportunities because of misinformation and lies. I spent 10 years in prison for something I did not do, and the emotional and mental toll has been more than anyone can imagine. Since my release, I have worked hard to rebuild my life, but the stigma and barriers have made it nearly impossible to move forward. Every day, I am reminded of the injustice I endured, and the pain of being labeled for something I am not is overwhelming.

I have completely discharged my sentence, and there is no hold on me with the State. Still, I am determined to get my case back to court—not because I want to relive the pain, but because I am innocent. My experience is similar to the true story depicted in the movie American Violet, which shows how a small Texas town unjustly charged people. I know that seeking justice could subject me to backlash and judgment, but I cannot stay silent any longer. I have been the silent sufferer, the one smiling and pretending everything is okay, but inside, the pain has been immense.

Despite my efforts to save money and seek help, I continue to struggle. I have reached out to pro bono attorneys and organizations like the Innocence Project and Texas Southern University, but I still do not have the resources to get my case back to court where it belongs. The legal process is expensive, and without support, I fear my case will be swept under the rug.
