I never thought that I would find myself in a situation like this.
I have been unemployed for nearly a year despite doing my best to look for part time work.
My credit card is currently maxed out at 25k. I currently do not have running water at home. I recently accrued high data charges on my phone bill due to not having internet access in November. And my 10-year old laptop, which has been long overdue for repair can potentially stop working any day now.
Leaving my job earlier this year, after working there for five, long exploitative years, I am now profoundly burnt out and in need of deep recovery.
As this was my first 'real' job, and I currently do not have a support system, I have a lot of fear around pursuing salaried positions as a person with ADHD and complex PTSD. I have given up on working in the art sector all together; as dwindling arts funding has normalized a culture of exploitation and meagre compensation, sector-wide.
I am ineligible for EI Benefits as I had no choice but to leave this position voluntarily.
I'm currently studying Japanese and working on my TEFL certification, so that I can move to Japan to teach English. A life-changing opportunity.
But in the mean time,
I cannot cook meals at home without running water
I cannot apply for jobs without a phone
I cannot attend classes and study without a laptop
