Recently, I had to escape a toxic relationship, which forced me to spend thousands on domestic violence attorney fees using my credit card and left me with injuries and scars. I am now suing my ex-boyfriend for unpaid rent in small claims court, but the financial strain has been overwhelming. I had to move to Lake Elsinore on short notice because it was the only place I could afford, but living here has been isolating and challenging. Gas prices have doubled, and I cannot afford to fill up my tank every day. There are few job opportunities in Lake Elsinore, and even if I find work in Riverside County, the commute is over an hour long. My current job as an Instructional Aide/Behavior Interventionist is in Orange County, which means I have to wake up at 5am to drive the treacherous, narrow and curvy Ortega highway, adding mileage and wear and tear to my car. The daily commute is exhausting, and I am spending over two hours stuck in traffic every day, which is time I can never get back.

I feel very lonely and isolated in Lake Elsinore. Everything is run down, and even basic amenities like the gym and UPS store are miles away. All my Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) friends are in OC. I've maxed out all my credit cards and I am struggling to keep up with the cost of living. I have applied for jobs at universities and community colleges, but hiring has slowed, and it is difficult to get past ATS. I need time to find a second and third job in OC. Many privileged folks can move back in with their parents when they are going through a breakup or are moving or job searching.
