I live with PTSD, generalized anxiety disorder, and major depressive disorder as a result of the assault. Because of this, I am currently on long-term disability leave from work and struggling financially. Three years ago, I was forced to leave my apartment in Montreal due to unsafe living conditions. My mom kindly took me in, but she lives in the same town as my assailant.
Living so close to him and possibly seeing him in public has been extremely damaging to my mental health and my PTSD recovery. Every day feels like I am reliving the trauma. I have spent three years trying to survive in close proximity to the person who caused me so much harm, and I have reached a point where I simply cannot continue like this.
Moving back to Montreal means safety, stability, and hope. It means returning to my community, rebuilding my independence, and finally having the space I need to heal. This move would quite literally change my life.
The funds raised will go toward essential moving costs, first and last month’s rent, utilities, and basic household items for my new apartment. If there is any remaining amount, it will help cover rent and the medical care I need for my recovery, including therapy.
Sharing my story is not easy, but I’m doing so because I truly need help. Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you’re unable to donate, I completely understand — even sharing this fundraiser would mean more than I can express.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Laura & Sammy (my cat)
