I am living with terminal cancer and lung disease, and I rely on Social Security Disability to get by. When I was first diagnosed, my doctors didn’t expect me to live this long, and I am so grateful for the extra time I’ve been given. Still, I know I don’t have a whole lot of time left. I am 73 years old now and will be 74 by the time I need to move.
Right now, I live in a HUD facility in Portland, but I am hoping to move to Eugene, Oregon, where I can be closer to my sister. I am currently 31st on the waitlist for a HUD building there. My two children live out of state, and having family nearby would mean so much to me during this time. My monthly income is at the poverty level, and it’s impossible for me to save up enough money to cover the costs of moving. I am working very hard to clean out my apartment and downsize from a one-bedroom to a studio, but I will need to hire two strong movers to help me load up here in Portland, rent a moving truck, and then hire two more movers to help me unload in Eugene. Because I am on oxygen almost all the time, I can’t physically manage the move myself. I am hoping to move in late September or early October, before the rainy season begins.
I am hoping and praying for help as I start this new chapter. Any support you can offer would mean the world to me. Thank you so much for your kindness and for reading my story.
