Help me move back home to the U.S!

Hello everyone!♥

I'm guessing most people taking the time to read this probably already know me, but my name is Amadara Oguara. I've been working as an English teacher for elementary and middle school students in Kyoto, Japan for the past 4 years. During my time here, I've been an important cultural ambassador as well as activist, representing my Nigerian (Nembe) and Native (Colville, Arrow Lakes, Moses/Columbia, Entiat, Wenatchi) roots. I've been an advocate for my students, especially those who are considered "different" or "othered," whether for their mixed heritage or different abilities. Throughout my time in Japan, in and outside of school, I've promoted diversity, kindness, cultural exchange, and understanding. This job has been my proudest moment in life so far and I especially treasure the positive relationships I've cultivated with my students and schools, and the community of wonderful friends from all walks of life that I've built here.

Unfortunately, due to chronic health issues, I had to make the difficult decision to complete my time here after this current semester and move back home in August. I planned for this earlier this year, however, the yen has been sharply decreasing against the dollar right now and causing my moving costs to skyrocket. Any money I have is in yen, but all of my expenses are in USD, and my family has been helping me out as well, but things are tight. Global shipping is still being affected by the impact of the pandemic, and I've found that many affordable shipping options are no longer offered or still on hiatus. On top of moving expenses, my final paycheck will be next to nothing, as most of it is taken out for inhabitant's taxes as per Japanese law. Additionally, this month I got really sick, and unfortunately accrued some unexpected medical expenses. I also still have loan payments to make in the U.S. at this time. I hate to ask for help as I know I'm not the only one struggling right now, but I appreciate even the smallest donation to help ease these financial burdens. Any USD will go a long way. My goal is just to get home safely and soundly to my friends and family in the U.S, and be able to bring back the little of Japan I want to keep with me. Donations will be used towards shipping and monthly living expenses, as well as paying off any remaining debts in Japan. Thank you so much for reading my story until now, and for supporting me.
