As I write this, I am leasing an apartment with my partner, but we are separating. I am moving from Virginia to Maryland on fairly short notice. The lease for the apartment we live in goes until March of next year. To break the lease, there is a required 60-day notice, and payment of those two months of rent regardless of whether I live here or not. Additionally, there is a $1,550 lease-breaking fee. My partner will continue to live in this apartment for at least those two months, but probably not any longer than that. Neither of us have much of anything in the way of savings, nor could one of us fully afford to live here alone.
