Help me move across country to help my G'ma
Donation protected
Hey team, I'm sorry to announce this, but after 16 yrs here I am leaving Seattle and moving back East to help out my family.
My grandma is 89 yrs old and has reached the point where she could use some help. Living alone is not ideal. She shouldn't be driving, and life necessities like grocery shopping and house-upkeep and now very overwhelming for her.
My island family has a lot going on with my 2 yr old nephew battling cancer. No one really has the bandwidth to support Mimi as much as she needs. I happen to be in a place and time where I can do this for them.
This move is quite sudden, and I have not saved up any funds. We need to pack my life (what I can justify taking, like my home bike shop) in a POD. Mom, my cats and I are going to load up in a rental and drive across the country. In addition, it's going to take some time to get setup with unemployment in MA. I've also heard that there might be programs through the government to subsidize people who have to be caretakers.
I'm happy and proud of the life I built in Seattle. I have so many amazing friends, I've built community, became civically engaged, and even launched myself a new career. I'll be leaving around October 20th and will likely be on the road for my birthday. West Coast peeps, I'll post some goodbye events when I get them planned. East Coast peeps, I'll be back in your timezone soon.
