Hi — I’m Mateo.
I’m building J.A.N.E.T. — Just A Neat Evolving Thinker — an AI companion meant to be useful, kind, and yours: open-source, offline-first, and governed by a public constitution of axioms anyone can read. No cloud lock-in. No subscription rent. Your voice and your data are meant to stay on your devices, not become someone else’s product.
Why I’m doing this (especially for learners)
The best “teacher” most of us ever get is time, patience, and a safe place to ask dumb questions. Kids and students deserve tools that explain, practice, and meet them where they are — without turning every homework question into training data for the next ad model. Adults deserve the same: language practice, captions, translation, memory support, and a calm voice in the room when life is loud.
Janet isn’t here to replace parents, teachers, or human judgment. She’s here to amplify access: a patient tutor in your pocket that can rephrase, quiz, caption, and translate, with privacy-first defaults and behavior you can actually inspect (because the principles are public).
What it looks like day to day
Janet runs where you already work and live — phone, laptop, IDE — and we’re pushing toward smart glasses so help can be glanceable when hands and attention are busy. Say “Hey Janet!” and she can help with captions, translation, study practice, accessibility, or conversation — designed for people who want AI that doesn’t ship everything to Big Tech by default.
What your support funds
This campaign helps fund the next phase: Janet Glasses — live captions and translation in your field of view, offline- and privacy-first. We’re validating on Brilliant Labs Halo hardware before moving toward European-sourced glasses. Donations go toward development units, software, and an accessibility pilot with real users so we build something that survives contact with reality — not just a demo.

If you believe the future should include AI that teaches and assists without selling your attention, you’re already part of this. Thank you for helping prove that people want tools that respect privacy, run offline, and put humans first.
