Help me look after the neighbourhood cats in 2025!

Hi! My name is Madiha and I have been caring for the cats in my residential community (Amynabad Colony - Karachi, Pakistan) for the last 5+ years. We started feeding one cat in 2019 and before we knew it, we were feeding and caring for all the cats in our lane. In 2023 I started carrying out a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program in the neighbourhood with my own funds and also started feeding those cats in different parts of the neighbourhood who don't have caretakers. My work over the last 5 years has involved the following:

• I have spayed and neutered over 210 cats within Amynabad Colony (and over 250 cats in total) to prevent the overpopulation of cats and to prevent the birth of kittens that eventually die painful deaths due to illness, malnourishment, and accidents. During this time, I have seen the cats in the area become healthier and calmer.

• I feed between 80 and 100 cats good quality food every day to help ensure that they remain healthy and do not have to rummage through garbage to find food.

• I regularly rescue and treat sick and injured cats.

• I foster neighbourhood cats that require long-term care to ensure that they are fully healthy and sterilized before they can be released back into their natural environment.

• I keep chronically ill and disabled neighbourhood cats with me permanently in my own home so that they can receive the care and safety they require on a continous basis. At present, the cats that live in my home suffer from various ailments, including blindness, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, paralysis, neurological disabilities, hypertension, ashtma, and autoimmune diseases of the mouth and skin.

• I have spread awareness amongst society residents and workers regarding the importance of caring for animals, co-existing with them in the same space and sterilizing them in a timely manner. As a result, they feel comfortable informing me if they see a sick animal.

As my work expands in depth and breadth, I find myself struggling to deal with the monthly expenses of feeding the neighbourhood cats and getting them the medical help they need. Often, community members hand over sick cats to me unexpectedly and it becomes difficult to cover their food and treatment costs on my own. The number of animals requiring help and support has increased significantly over the last few months; unfortunately, however, the donor pool for animal rescue work is very limited in Pakistan, as most people lack empathy for street animals and prefer to donate to causes related to humans. As a result, I am looking to find monthly donors/sponsors internationally to help me continue to ensure that the animals around me can live dignified lives. My monthly expense is around PKR 800,000 (CAD 4100).

Please help the cats under my care by donating whatever you can for their wellbeing. I will continue to share rescue stories with you and will also happily share details about monthly expenses with donors. Your contribution will help me ensure that I can continue taking great care of the neighbourhood cats.
