Help Me Live Authentically – Support My Top Surgery Journey

Hi everyone,

My name is Jakob, I’m a 25-year-old transgender man, and I’m reaching out to ask for your support as I take one of the biggest steps toward living fully and authentically: top surgery.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve struggled with gender dysphoria. Every glance in the mirror has been a reminder that my body doesn’t reflect who I truly am. Binding daily is both physically painful and emotionally exhausting — it’s a temporary fix that has taken a toll on my health and well-being. Top surgery isn’t just a procedure to me; it’s the key to peace, confidence, and finally feeling at home in my own skin.

Unfortunately, the cost of gender-affirming surgery in the U.S. is incredibly high. Even with insurance, many providers deny coverage or offer only partial support. After months of consultations and research, the total cost of my top surgery — including surgeon fees, anesthesia, hospital costs, and post-op care — is around $11,000.

I’ve been saving what I can while attending Job Corps in attempts to begin a fulfilling career, but I can’t do this alone. That’s where you come in.
