I’m starting this GoFundMe to raise money toward the legal process of changing my name and gender marker so that my legal documents accurately reflect who I am.

This is something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time, but financially, I haven’t been in a position to make it happen. For years, I’ve hoped that I would eventually reach a place where I could afford to cover the costs myself. Unfortunately, I’ve been focused on simply getting by, making ends meet, and keeping myself afloat. As much as this has meant to me, it has continued to take a backseat to the financial demands of everyday life.

I’ve never really asked for help with this process before because I always believed I would eventually be able to do it on my own. But with the growing number of anti-trans laws and attacks on transgender rights, I’m becoming increasingly concerned that waiting too long could mean losing the opportunity to make this important change.

Legally changing my name and gender marker would mean so much more to me than just updating documents. It would be another important step in my transition and allow me to move through the world with greater confidence, safety, and peace of mind. I want my identification and legal records to reflect who I am, without having to worry about being misgendered, deadnamed, or involuntarily outing myself in everyday situations. Having these documents accurately reflect my identity would also give me more control over when and with whom I choose to share my transgender identity.

My goal is to raise $300, which will cover the legal name change process in the state where I currently reside, as well as the associated costs of updating important documents and records, including my Social Security information and state ID.
