Help Me Launch Mel’s Mobile Bike Shop – Eco-Friendly Repairs on the Go! Hey everyone — my name’s Max, and if you’ve spent any time around Jamaica Plain, Kelly Rink,Mels Hyde Park BikeShop, or Ferris Wheels Bike Shop, you’ve probably seen me around — maybe fixing a bike, riding my unicycle or lowrider, or just talking shop with folks.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved working with bikes and helping people stay on the road. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of being part of the community through Bikes Not Bombs, Ferris Wheels, and lots of local events around JP. I’ve met so many amazing people who share the same passion for bikes, sustainability, and good old-fashioned helping one another.

Now, after many years of repairing bikes in shops and on the street, I’m ready to take the next step and start Expanding of my own:

Mel’s Mobile Bike Shop

It’ll be a fully equipped mobile repair service that comes directly to you — but will be stationed at Ruggles tennis courts. whether you need a flat fixed, a tune-up, e-bike maintenance, or a quick roadside repair. My goal is to make bike care more convenient and environmentally friendly while continuing to serve the community that’s supported me for so long.

To make this dream a reality, I’m raising funds to help me get started. The money will go toward:

Outfitting a mobile repair van or trailer with tools, racks, and power setup

Professional bike tools & e-bike diagnostics equipment

A portable battery system for eco-friendly service

Business licensing, insurance, and startup costs

Branding and community outreach materials

Why This Means So Much to Me:

Bikes have always been more than just a way to get around — they represent freedom, connection, and care for the environment. For years, I’ve helped neighbors, kids, and commuters keep their bikes in good shape, often right there on the sidewalk or at community events.

Now I’m asking for a little help to bring this next chapter to life — a chance to build something that gives back, creates cleaner transportation options, and keeps people rolling safely through our streets.

Every contribution, big or small, brings me one step closer to making Mel’s Mobile Bike Shop a reality — something I’ve dreamed about for a long time.
