Help Me (Kesi) Advance

Hello there!

 

My name is Kesi, and as some of you might already know, I graduated last year debt-free from Yale University with a degree in Neuroscience and a certificate in Mandarin. My plan was to head straight to medical school, but in my final year, I taught myself Korean and figured I should continue to study the language to reach proficiency. Thankfully that same year, I was the recipient of the Light Fellowship which is a Yale scholarship that funds language study in East Asia.

 

For the past six months, solely due to this scholarship, I have been studying at the Yonsei University Korean Language Institute in Seoul, Korea. Unfortunately, this scholarship only covers my study abroad until May 2022. Here is the thing; if I pack up and leave in May, I would be one semester short of completing the advanced program which would allow me to graduate with a certificate (which is my goal).

 

I have been working small jobs in Korea (mainly teaching English), in preparation for when the scholarship runs out. It has been very challenging to find work that fits with the four hours a day class schedule, not counting study hours!

 

So here I am, asking for your support to make this happen. I want to use this opportunity not only to learn a language but to gain cultural experiences (both related and unrelated to medicine), before I begin that medical school journey. I'm still thinking to study Neurosurgery but I'm twenty-one and prone to mind-changes.

 

I ask for your support to help me get anywhere near my goal; I could continue to live in Korea until the completion of my language program in August. Your donation will also allow me to do some travelling within the country and I could continue to participate in the dance community in Seoul which I loved doing until I tore my meniscus, again! But I'm on the mend.

 

Please help me close out my study abroad experience. Any amount you can contribute will be very much appreciated.
