My name is Ken Lintern. I was a working musician who, in 2013, took on a run-down studio and rebuilt it into what became 13 Sound Studios — a place made by musicians, for musicians.
I borrowed heavily to create the recording studio and control room many of you have worked in. Like most of us, I believed in the music and trusted that the work would come.
Then Covid hit. Gigs vanished. The industry stalled. Many studios didn’t survive — we did.
Until October 2024, my main source of income was performing live, and that income kept the studio afloat through the hard years. Sadly due to health issues, I was forced to retire from live performance, losing the income that had supported both my family and the studio.
Today, the studio is busy, respected, and finally profitable — but I’m still carrying over £23,000 in personal debt taken on to create what it is today. That debt costs nearly £830 a month just to service.
My son, a freelance sound engineer, has been involved since the start and now helps keep the studio running as my health and mobility have declined.
My goal is simple: to reduce historic debt, keep this space alive, and leave him a debt-free studio that supports the next generation of local musicians.
I’m not asking to expand or upgrade anything.
Raising £5,000–£10,000 would give real breathing space and keep this studio in musicians’ hands.
If you’ve ever recorded, rehearsed, or felt at home in a local studio — you know how rare these spaces are.
Any support, or even sharing this page, truly means everything.
Thank you for standing with us.
— Ken
